Today marks the starting date for several new benefits to the Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from American Express. Among the changes: 1) no foreign transaction fees, 2) complimentary, unlimited Boingo Wi-Fi, 3) complimentary premium in-room internet access and 4) access to Sheraton Club Lounges for SPG American Express OPEN cardmembers. At the same time, the annual fee is rising from $65 to $95.

Not coincidentally, Starwood has also selected this day to bring back a popular limited-time offer: Through September 14, 2015, you can earn 30,000 bonus Starpoints after you use your new Card to make $3,000 in purchases within the first 3 months. That’s up from the 25,000 Starpoints usually offered for signing up.

The Starwood Amex has traditionally been one of my favorite points-based credit cards due to its flexible and valuable points. And since Starwood has typically only offered this 30,000 Starpoint bonus once per year, now is the best time to get the card if you decide it’s the right card for you.
