The Miles Card From Discover: Offering 12,000 Bonus Miles Effective June 1

Discover has decided to increase the number of Bonus Miles it offers for new applications of its Miles Card. Starting June 1, 2006, new applicants will receive 12,000 miles after their first qualifying purchase, representing a significant increase from the 5,000 bonus miles previously offered. So, if you were planning to apply for this card, you should wait until next month to do so.

This offer is only good for today, May 18. When you sign up for the Citi / AAdvantage Mastercard, you’ll earn 25,000 bonus miles after spending $250 or more. There’s no annual fee for the first 12 months and you will also receive a free companion certificate to use on an American Airlines domestic round-trip coach-class ticket with a fare of $299 or more.

Note that this is a marked improvement over this deal since it waives the annual fee and gives you a free companion certificate.

It isn’t the most spectacular signup reward available, but considering the way that movie ticket prices have been skyrocketing, it isn’t bad. Whereas the typical signup for the Univeral Entertainment card gives you one movie ticket after your first purchase, this offer gives you four.

Citi PremierPass: No Fee, 0% Balance Transfer Until June 2007, $100 Gift Card

This deal is nearly identical to the one previously posted about the Citi Diamond Preferred Rewards AMEX, except of course it’s for a different card. As mentioned on FW:

Note that there are three different flavors of this card: 1) the no annual fee version, which is the version offered here, 2) the “Elite Level” version, which offers more points per dollars spent at the cost of a $75 annual fee, and 3) the Business version, which is essentially the same as the “Elite Level” but geared towards businesses.

The rewards structure is unique in that in addition to earning points for your spending on the card, you also earn points for miles flown on tickets purchased with your card. You can find more details on the Premier Pass points program here.

If you’re extra paranoid like me, you’ll have skimmed through the terms and conditions of the online application and noticed that no mention is made of bonus Thank You points, which is what I assume you will receive to exchange for the gift card. So, I would recommend applying over the phone with the offer code to confirm that the deal exists as suggested.

Bank Of America Power Rewards Visa: Free $25 Gift Card

In case you aren’t familiar with this card already, it offers up to 2% back with no annual fee and no caps. While you also have the opportunity to redeem accrued points for other merchandise, the real value lies in the cash back redemption at the upper tiers:

3,500 Points = $25 Cash Rebate
6,500 Points = $50 Cash Rebate
9,500 Points = $75 Cash Rebate
12,500 Points = $100 Cash Rebate
20,000 Points = $200 Cash Rebate
30,000 Points = $450 Cash Rebate
50,000 Points = $1,000 Cash Rebate

As you can see, at 1 point per dollar spent, you can receive 2% cash back once you accumulate 50,000 points. Points do expire after 5 years and since the point exchange values could in theory change at any time, this is probably only attractive for big spenders. As for specifics of this signup offer, as posted on FW:

Call 1.800.807.4293 and apply for the Bank of America Power Rewards Card by July 1, 2006. Make one purchase, within 90 days you will receive instructions by mail for ordering your $25 gift card online or by phone. Gift cards are available for “hundreds of merchandisers including Blockbuster and The Home Depot

In addition to the $25 gift card, this offer also comes with 500 bonus points after the first purchase and 0% on purchases and balance transfers for the first six months. Rate after the six months will be between 11.49% and 20.49% depending on your credit report.

There was also the site www.bankofamerica.com/powerrewardsoffer mentioned in the ad, but it does not seem to work and the CSR said it should be fixed on Monday.
