Amex Introduces the Plum Card for Small Businesses

American Express is launching a new, innovative credit card for small businesses. It is designed to allow cash flow management with maximum flexibility, featuring two unique options:

Pay Early Discount
Pay your balance in full within 10 days of your billing cycle date and get a 2% discount when your month’s total spending is above $5,000 and 1% when it’s $5,000 or below. The discount is applied to all new eligible charges in that month, and will appear as a credit on your following month’s statement.

Defer Pay Option
Take up to two months from the closing date on your monthly statement to pay your new balance in full–all without interest or finance charges. Just make an initial payment of 10% by the Please Pay By date on your billing statement and you can extend payment on the rest until the next month’s Please Pay By date.

The card does have an annual fee of $185, which is waived the first year.

To add a bit of drama, Amex is limiting the number of cards initially issued to 10,000. You can find more information on the card, as well as request an application at this link.

Before you consider applying, though, consider this: unlike personal credit cards, the rebate on business cash back credit cards is taxable. In contrast, miles are not. That’s why, if you do any traveling, I would recommend instead a business credit card that earns miles like the Starwood Preferred Guest Amex.

Amex Adds AA Lounge Access for Platinum and Centurion Members

American Express Platinum and Centurion Card holders can now enjoy complimentary American Airlines’ Admirals Club lounge access when traveling with a same-day ticket on the carrier. Card holders are allowed to bring their spouse and children under age 21 or up to two travelling companions to the clubs, which feature amenities such as showers, cybercafes and complimentary snacks.

Amex Plat and Centurion cardholders will also continue to enjoy access to the lounges for Continental Airlines, Delta and Northwest Airlines.

Buy Two Amex Gift Cards, Get Free $25 Gift Card

When you purchase any two American Express Gift Cards between now and September 30, 2007, you’ll receive a free “Back-to-School Card” worth $25 that can be used at Banana Republic, Old Navy, Gap and Linens ‘n Things.

You’ll need to purchase the gift cards in-store, which is where you will also find the accompanying rebate form to be filled out and returned. Participating retailers include A&P, Albertsons, Carrs Food Store, CVS, Dominick’s, Duane Reade, Eagle, Genuardi’s, Kings, Pak N Save, Pavilions, Randalls, Rite Aid, Safeway, Simon David, Tom Thumb, Vons, Wawa, and Winn Dixie.

American Express gift cards are available in denominations ranging from $25 to $500. There is a limit of two rebates per household, and the $25 reward gift cards must be used within three months from their date of issue. Starwood Amex Summer Promo – Up to 200% Bonus

From FT:

I got a mailer from AMEX for my Starwood Card. No Promo code not sure if it is open to everyone or it is a targeted promo.

Spend anywhere between 8-15-07 and 9-15-07 and get the following bonus depending on the amount you spend.

$500-1000 = 25% bonus points
$1k-5k = 50% bonus points
$5k-10k = 75% bonus points
$10k-20k = 100% bonus points
$20k + = 200% bonus points.

Bonus in addition to normal earned points and SPG Bonus.

This is a sizzling offer for Starwood Amex cardholders, though I strongly suspect that the offer is targeted, as Amex rarely makes these promos available to everyone.

Citi Chairman Card v2.0

An outline of the benefits for the next generation of the Citi Chairman Card, which is Citi’s answer to the Amex Platinum, has just been rolled out.

The card’s features include:

  • Hilton Gold status
  • Priority Pass benefits, similar to what was available before
  • Personal concierge service

Changes include:

  • As expected, the new version of the card will be an Amex rather than a Mastercard.
  • All foreign transaction fees on the card will be waived until December 31, 2008.
  • For an additional fee, additional cardmembers can enjoy full benefits.
  • Companions can travel to select international destinations, rather than just domestic.
  • There is no explicit mention of select spend ThankYou points, where spending in categories such as gas, drugstores and groceries earn extra points, leading to the possibility that these bonuses are no longer offered.
