Similar to the Small Business Saturday promotion it runs annually, American Express has created a brand new Shop Small August offer. Under this offer, American Express cardmembers can register their eligible cards to earn a $5 statement credit after they spend $5 or more at a qualifying small business during the month of August. They can receive this $5 credit up to 3 times per registered card during the promotion period. This offer is only available in Houston, Miami-Ft. Lauderdale, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Philadelphia and Sacramento.

To participate in this promotion, Amex cardmembers must:

1. Register an eligible American Express card between 12:00 A.M. MST on Aug 1, 2014, and 11:59 P.M. MST on Aug 31, 2014, unless the registration limit is reached sooner. Corporate Cards and all prepaid Card products (other than American Express Serve®) are not eligible.
2. Use the registered Card between Aug 1 and Aug 31, 2014, to spend $5 or more at a qualifying small business listed in the Shop Small August Offer Directory. Online transactions do not qualify.
3. Get a $5 statement credit from American Express within 90 days after Aug 31, 2014. Limit three $5 statement credits per registered American Express Card.
