Small Business Saturday–the holiday American Express created to encourage shoppers to patronize brick and mortar businesses that are small and local–is coming soon, to be observed on November 29, 2014, the Saturday after Thanksgiving. On that day, American Express is offering its cardmembers the opportunity to earn three $10 statement credits per eligible American Express card for making purchases at qualifying small business locations. That’s a huge improvement over the single $10 statement credit per card that was offered last year, and overall, even more than the single $25 statement credits that used to be offered.

The number of registrations is limited. Registration opens at 12:00am MST on Nov 16, 2014 and will continue until 11:59pm MST on Nov 29, 2014, unless the registration limit is reached sooner.

Registering your card
Once registration is live, cardmembers will be able to register in any of the following ways:

• By visiting ShopSmall.com and completing the registration form there
• By logging in to your account at americanexpress.com and clicking on the ‘Amex Offers’ tab or ‘Small Business Saturday’ offer tile in ‘Amex Offers & Benefits’
• By logging into the American Express App and visiting the ‘Offers For You’ tab in the ‘Membership’ section
• By adding the offer directly to your connected Card via amex.co/facebook
• By tweeting #AmexShopSmall to add the offer directly to your connected Card

For most people, registering via one of the first three methods will be easiest, as registering through Facebook or Twitter require that you already have your card connected to your social media account.

Note: Corporate Cards and all prepaid Card products (other than
American Express Serve® and Bluebird®) are not eligible for this offer.

Using your card
Once you have registered your card, you must spend $10 or more in a single, in-store transaction at a qualifying small business location on Saturday, Nov 29, 2014. You may purchase multiple items that together equal $10 or more, but you must purchase them in a single transaction to receive the statement credit. Online transactions do not qualify. Qualifying small business locations appear on the Shop Small® Map available at ShopSmall.com. (Transactions with political campaigns or political action committees as well as purchases at gas or service stations, however, do not qualify for the statement credit, regardless of whether they appear on the Shop Small Map.)

Receiving your credit(s)

Provided American Express receives information from the merchant about your qualifying purchase, you should receive your statement credit(s) within 90 days of Nov. 29, 2014.
