New Marvel MasterCard – 3% Cash Back on Dining, Select Entertainment and Marvel.com

Marvel MasterCardGood news for Avengers fans — you now have an excuse to keep your favorite superhero in your pocket. Synchrony Financial and Marvel Partnerships just announced the launch of the new Marvel MasterCard and unlike nearly every other pop culture icon-related credit card, its rewards aren’t completely atrocious.

Cardholders will earn 3% cash back for purchases made on select entertainment, dining and online at Marvel.com and Marvel’s official merchandise booths.  All other purchases will earn 1% cash back. Cash back will be paid as a statement credit and the card has no annual fee.  Perhaps more importantly, the cards feature some excellent Marvel art work.

It’s worth noting that the books and newsstands category means that Amazon purchases should also qualify for 3% cash back. Of course, if you’re looking for a credit card to use at Amazon, there are better options.

The $25 is pretty pitiful as far as signup bonuses go and you should value a hard credit pull at much more than that. But really, the main reason that fans will be interested in the card is for the chance to carry some nice Avengers artwork with them.  Check out the current designs you can pick from:

The bottom line

The bottom line is that the Marvel Mastercard shouldn’t be the only credit card in your wallet. There are far better options for that.  But it can be useful as a secondary spending card in some niche categories and as eye candy in your wallet.
