Blue Cash Preferred Card: $250 Signup Bonus

Blue Cash Preferred Card from American ExpressThe Blue Cash Preferred Card from American Express is currently offering a $250 statement credit when you spend $1,000 in purchases on your new card within your first 3 months of cardmembership. That’s the best publicly available offer for the card to date.

In addition, the card is offering an intro 0% APR on purchase and balance transfers for your first 15 months, though balance transfers do come with a 3% fee (minimum $5). The card also carries a $75 annual fee, which is not waived for the first year.

The Blue Cash Preferred Card from American Express is a solid cash back card, making honorable mention in our best cash back credit card list for 2015. The card earns:

  • 6% Cash Back at U.S. supermarkets up to $6,000 per year in purchases (then 1%). Note: superstores and warehouse clubs are not considered supermarkets
  • 3% Cash Back at U.S. gas stations
  • 3% Cash Back at select U.S. department stores. The current list of select major department stores at which you can earn a 3% reward is available at americanexpress.com/rewards-info.
  • 1% Cash Back on other purchases

The card is most noteworthy for its cash back rate at grocery stores, which is especially relevant, as one of the other cards with excellent cash back at grocery stores–the Sallie Mae card–is no longer available, as of the past week.

Rebates are earned in the form of Reward Dollars, which may be redeemed for statement credits, or additional items like merchandise and gift cards, whenever your available Reward Dollar balance is 25 or more. You can redeem reward dollars for statement credits in increments of 25.

How to Get the $250 Bonus Offer
While the $250 bonus offer is publicly available, American Express apparently prefers to use it to woo new customers. So, in order to get the offer, the easiest way is to use Incognito Mode (if you’re using Chrome) or the equivalent, such as IE’s InPrivate browsing. Then, visit the American Express page for the card at www.americanexpress.com/us/credit-cards/blue-cash-preferred and you should see the $250 offer. If you don’t use Incognito, you’ll likely get a less lucrative offer, such as a $150 signup bonus.
